Getting stuck in traffic for long periods of time is nobody's idea of fun.
As Lafayette grows, one area of town is seeing that increase in traffic, but a solution is on the way!
A "super roundabout" is coming to the southern end of Lafayette parish.
the corner of E Broussard and Kaliste Saloom where a two-laned roundabout is going to be placed. Lafayette's neighboring town, Youngsville is very familiar with the roundabout system and are fans of it.
Accident's have gone down, long waits in the line waiting at either a four way stop or a traffic light, it just keeps traffic flowing." says Youngsville Chief of Police, Rickey Broussard.
A roundabout may look intimidating but it's actually not as bad as you think. In a roundabout you must yield to all lanes of traffic. Once a gap in traffic appears you can then merge into the roundabout and proceed to your exit. but make sure you look for pedestrians and use your turn signal before exiting and if there's no traffic you may enter without yielding.
The roundabout is part of phase one in the Kaliste Saloom widening project.
The project is expected to be completed in 2020 with construction on the roundabout starting early next year.
